‘‘Serving the Lord despite the challenges’’ has been our main topic this month, and today we will be learning from Nehemiah’s experience. Nehemiah is a biblical character who played an important role in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. His life teaches us valuable lessons about serving our nations.

When Nehemiah received news of his people's distress in Jerusalem, he was deeply saddened by the news of Jerusalem's destruction. He prayed to God for guidance and help. He then asked the king to allow him to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the city walls.

Nehemiah's life teaches us four important lessons about serving God's people (our nations):

  1. Understand the people's pain. Nehemiah took the time to understand the situation of his people. He learned that they were oppressed and that their city walls were in ruins.
  2. Be motivated by compassion. Nehemiah was motivated by compassion for his people. He wanted to help them out of their predicament.
  3. Be willing to serve. Nehemiah was willing to sacrifice his comfort and security to serve his people. He left his prestigious position in the king's court to return to Jerusalem.
  4. Have a relationship with God. Nehemiah had a close relationship with God. He prayed to God for guidance and help.

Brothers and sisters, Nehemiah's life is a model for all who serve God's people. To make a difference in our nations, we must be transformed. Salvation is available to all, but only those who embrace it and submit to God's guidance will become valuable members of their communities.
