Topic:  How an outstanding commitment to the great commission makes great CHRISTIANS

Preacher: Dr. Serge Sivya

1 Corinthians 10:32-33

2 Timothy 2:15

This text is a letter that Paul addresses to Corinthians. He urged the Christians in Corinth not to use their freedom in Christ carelessly. Believers should not act in such a way as to cause others to stumble, spiritually. A great Christian must be aware of the great mission to make disciples of all people. We have:

  • To glorify God in whatever we do: Every choice we make must glorify God: we don't need to see our own advantages but we have to ask ourselves if what we do is glorifying the Lord. Our behavior must reflect Christ because this is a good way for us to spread the gospel.
  • We have to make sure that we are not an obstacle to other people who want to come to Christ. We don’t need to be approved by people but first and foremost by God. We must not be ashamed as kingdom workers. We have to be eager  to handle rightly the word of the truth by being a good learner of scriptures.
  • To love and deeply study the word of God: as Paul urges Timothy to view himself as a worker seeking to please God by avoiding false teachers. This same exhortation is valid for us today as christians.

Dear congregation, as christians we must make every effort, and we must overcome our lethargy and strive to build these eight qualities into our lives, with God's help, namely - faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly affection and charity.
