Luc 2:1-7

On this special sunday, the last Sunday of 2022, we celebrate Emmanuel (God with us). We commemorate the day when the Holy God decided to come and live in our midst, Christ in us, the hope of glory. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Today, we are going to have a sermon in a special way. While Mary was drawing to the end of her pregnancy, a decree went out calling for a census. It was necessary for everyone to travel back to their ancestral villages in order for the registration to be completed.   It’s in this context that the interview between Joseph and a journalist who claims to have been in Bethlehem in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered take place.From this interview, we learn three key messages:

  1. When God decides to use us as vessels, it’s a privilege that we have to accept in humility. We have to always give our reverence to this powerful God;
  2. God is never late. He is always in time and he always accomplish what he has promised to everyone who remains obedient to his word;
  3. God is at work; He doesn’t use power or strength to accomplish his purpose but he only uses faith and obedience. Mary and Joseph believed in what God said that why he used them in a special way.

Dear congregation, God doesn’t call the brave but he makes brave those that he calls. God can use every one of us if we say ‘yes’ to his call. It doesn’t matter where we come from or our background. The only thing we have to do is just to say yes to his call, and he is going to use us in a mighty way.
