Faith in Jesus, the church's strongest foundation

Sunday 10th September 2023

Theme: Faith in Jesus Christ, the Chruch’s stronger foundation.

Texts: Matthew 7:24-29

Preacher:  JEREMIE NDABO

Jesus Christ being the best teacher, is here concluding his sermon on the Mount with a warning, He tells the story of two men who built houses: one on sand and the other on rock. The house on sand collapsed when the storm came, but the house on rock stood firm. Today we will explore the important lessons from this parable.

The two men in the parable had three things in common:

  • They both heard the teachings, in our era, we all have access to the Word of God, and we are exposed to many sources of knowledge about God, such as online content, books, etc. These sources can be edifying, but they should not be the only source of our spiritual growth. It is very important to build our faith on the solid rock, which is Jesus Christ himself, through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers.
  • They both built a house, we all have ambitions to succeed in life, but our success should not be defined by having more material possessions, more influence, titles, a successful career, marriage, a ministry, or a church. These are all noble pursuits, but they are shallow and will ultimately leave us empty and unfulfilled if they are not built on Jesus Christ as our foundation. Christ calls us to seek first the kingdom of God by aligning our priorities with His purpose and by putting His Word into practice. Knowledge alone is useless.
  • They both experienced a violent storm. In life, trials and challenges are inevitable and they will taste our faith and the foundation it’s built on. We can only stay grounded when our faith in built on Jesus Christ.

Brethren, let us commit to building our lives on Jesus Christ, the solid rock. This is a lifelong pursuit, and it is the only way to stand whatever storms might come our way.
